1a) Session 1 Translations for Oral Drills

These are the drills seen on the DVDs.  It is recommended that you read these first before listening to the classroom dialogue. The answers and questions will vary for reasons of spontaneity.  Listen closely to both and listen again various times in order to fine tune your listening and comprehension skills.  You will hear the native speakers’ dialogue initially, followed by the instructor’s questions.Then you will have a chance to answer these same questions.  Follow this same format for every set of drills.Notice that the instructor will ask questions using different subjects and subject pronouns in order to give you examples of various verb forms.

Introduction and Oral Drills

¿Cómo te llamas?                   What is your name?
¿Cómo se llama ella?              What is her name?
¿Cómo se llama tu amiga?     What is your friend’s name?
¿De dónde eres?                      Where are you from?
¿De dónde es ella/él?               Where is she/he from?
¿Cómo estás?                           How are you?
¿Dónde trabajas?                    Where do you work?
¿Dónde estás?                          Where are you?
¿Dónde está tu amigo?            Where is your friend?
¿Cómo está usted?                   How are you?  (formal way of asking)
¿Te gusta béisbol?                   Do you like baseball?
¿Te gusta leer libros?              Do you like to read books?
¿Te gustan los exámenes?       Do you like exams?
¿Eres americano?                    Are you American?
¿Eres mexicana?                      Are you Mexican?
¿Eres famosa?                          Are you famous?
¿Eres serio?                              Are you serious?
¿Eres inteligente?                    Are you intelligent?
¿Usted es emocional?              Are you emotional?  (formal way of asking)
¿Usted es sentimental?            Are you sentimental? (formal way of asking)

When talking to someone, you will either use the “tú” form of the verb, the familiar way, or the “usted” form, the formal way. Study subject pronoun page for clarification.  Also, study vocabulary lists for first session.
